We've had really awesome weather of late. The January thaw was on us for the last few days of January and the first couple of days of February... but this morning I got up to grey skies overhead and what looks like snow ahead. Yesterday was such a beautiful day and then today is not.... but maybe snow is not the worse thing in the world... we could be having freezing rain which is what the forecasters are calling for in some of our areas.
Yesterday I managed to almost catch up with my write ups. I even managed to get the section 3 in level 5 done since that was just writing up the Burn test results that we did in class way back in June of last summer. The funny thing is, I decided to use a picture at the beginning of each section of my binder and I got the brilliant idea to use one of the pictures that I took when I burned my level 3 books back in 2010 as the picture for the section divider of the Burn Test. It looks like this....
I will continue working away on them today and hopefully finish up before the day is over. Yesterday morning I was folding laundry in my bedroom and when I went through the odd sock basket I found a bag of alpaca/merino rovings
that looked so delightful that last night when I finished my write-ups for the night, I sat right down at my wheel and watched two movies while spinning almost the whole 100 grams.... well, I almost finished it... I have about 20 grams left. I will finish that this morning before I get down to the rest of the write ups. Ever since I sold some of my skeins of yarn a few weeks ago I've had it in my mind to spin for selling... I like the idea of selling my yarn so I will carry on doing a little here and there when ever I can. This is what I finished last night...
I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself, though I do need to finish up the merino for the 25 shades of logwood before I go to my retreat at the Blueberry on the 15th, and I should be getting that spun.
I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to the Blueberry Retreat. I am hoping that I will be able to get cell service so that I can write short things here on my blog while I'm away... however the Blueberry is way out in the middle of nowhere and there may not be cell service.... that's a real possibility. I guess we'll see! I guess I will be taking some of my homework to work on while I'm out at the Blueberry. I was thinking of trying to get all the dye samples done for the level 5 homework... I have most of my dyeing done so it is just a matter of mounting sample and working on a small tapestry. Then there is the 25 shades of logwood.... if that turns out alright I will maybe bring along my loom and get that done too.... maybe not take my spinning wheel at all! I might actually have to go through detox though! Nope I'm already abandoning that idea. ; )
So today is peaceful and quiet and all is ready for me to go finish that bag of alpaca/merino rovings.... yup.... I hope you're having a nice Sunday too.
See y'all tomorrow....

Your fire photo didn't inspire this - it was set off by something I heard on CBC Radio 1 tonight - but it kinda fits. There was a documentary on Hawkins' Cheezies and someone mentioned that they burn like stink. Thought your hubby might find that mildly interesting; emergency fire-starter that you can use, then munch on the leftovers while you build up your fuel supply. I knew that coffee whitener burned like a hotdam - a friend actually found me a "Myth Busters" episode where they demonstrated that it's the next best thing to rocket fuel - but cheezies was a bit of a surprise. However, unlike coffee whitener, they come in different sized packages, and, as mentioned, you can also use them for emergency rations! I wonder what other snack foods have unplumbed "talents" in that direction?
With the number of WG members working on their master spinners courses, maybe there's potential for creating a market for handspun yarns up here? I wonder what Char would make of skeins hanging in the gallery shop?
Yup I knew cheezies burned really well from way back in my University days. Chips burn like stink too... those were the days when you would sit around in a pub with several rum and coke in front of you and when you were bleary eyed enough you would start experimenting.... I remember one night burning all the snacks on the table to see which ones burned best and by far the plain Hostess (sold in the east) chips would burn forever.... you could have used them for a little lamp back in the olden days! Give it a try.... and as for Char.... we should just take over the gallery in FSJ with our arty skeins of wool... hey.. Maybe that could be our theme for the next gallery show... art yarns for the inner artist/knitter!
I can't speak for the rest, but a gallery show of handspinning sounds like a great idea to me. Maybe an idea to run past the gang at Blueberry? We could end up with a 3 year head start! Mind boggling concept, isn't it?
